Yobe partners Chinese firm on 3m tonnes cement project

Governor Mai Mala Buni has reaffirmed the commitment of the Yobe State Government to partner with Mutual Commitment Company Ltd for the establishment of a three million tonnes per annum limestone-to-cement industrial complex in the state.

The governor gave the assurance on Sunday while receiving the Group Managing Director of the Chinese company, Liu Long, and members of the management team during a courtesy visit.

Buni said the proposed industrial complex would serve as a major milestone in the state’s industrialisation drive and economic transformation agenda.

According to him, the project reflects the administration’s commitment to harnessing the abundant natural resources in the state for economic growth, job creation and sustainable development.

The governor explained that the initiative would be driven by the Yobe Mining Development Company Limited to strengthen local value addition, support infrastructure development and attract more investments into the state.

He added that the project would also position Yobe as an emerging hub for cement production in Nigeria.

Speaking during the visit, Liu Long commended the Yobe State Government for what he described as its proactive political will and enabling governance environment.

He said the company was ready to anchor its operations on a mutually beneficial partnership aimed at achieving sustainable development objectives in the state.

The proposed cement industrial complex is expected to boost industrial activities and create employment opportunities for residents when completed.
