The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has issued comprehensive guidelines for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination registration, alongside a list of common challenges candidates may face during the process.
The announcement, released on Sunday via JAMB’s official X handle, aims to aid prospective applicants in preparing adequately ahead of the commencement of registration.
Registration Procedure
According to the board, candidates must ensure that personal information — including National Identification Number, email address, and A-Level results — are accurate before generating a profile code.
Applicants are required to send their 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 using the format:
NIN 00000011111.
JAMB stressed that once a profile code is generated, it cannot be changed, as biodata will be automatically retrieved from the National Identity Management Commission database.
Thereafter, candidates are to visit the nearest JAMB Office or approved CBT Centre to complete the registration.
The board warned that E-PINs must only be purchased from authorised vendors, including banks, online platforms, and accredited agents at registration centres.
Candidates must also ensure the correct registration template is supplied and that all data is thoroughly reviewed before final submission.
JAMB reiterated that inaccurate information may lead to complications during or after registration.
Important Tips for Candidates
Candidates were further advised to:
Make corrections with NIMC early and ensure the updated details are reflected on their portal.
Use unique and functional mobile numbers and email addresses.
Report any biometric-related issues directly to a JAMB office, as no CBT centre is permitted to force biometric capture.
Confirm that passport photographs and fingerprints are correctly captured using the mandated dual-screen system.
Common Challenges Identified
JAMB listed frequent issues encountered during profile code generation, including:
Error 55019/66019: Usually caused by incorrect SMS formatting.
“Number Already Registered”: Occurs when the phone number has been used previously; candidates should retrieve the SIM or use a fresh number.
“Unable to Verify NIN”: Candidates may need to wait and retry later.
The board confirmed that the 2026 UTME form will be on sale from Friday, January 31, 2026, to Saturday, March 8, 2026.
