The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has announced restrictions on interactions between men and women in vehicles and at public gatherings, citing the need to uphold Sharia principles.
This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the State Commander of the Commission, Dr Muhammad Yawudi Kale.
According to the statement, the directive was approved by the Chairman of the Yobe State Hisbah Commission, Dr Yahuza Hamza Abubakar.
The Commission warned against private conversations and physical interactions between men and women under the guise of socialising, especially during festive occasions such as weddings and Sallah celebrations.
It listed prohibited behaviours to include reckless movement in vehicles during public celebrations and physical contact between men and women in tricycles (Keke Napep), motorcycles and other public spaces.
The Commission noted that such acts were considered contrary to Sharia law and the moral values guiding society in the state.
It called on parents, guardians and community leaders to support the enforcement of the directive, stressing that the measures were aimed at safeguarding moral standards.
According to the statement, the Commission will intensify monitoring and take appropriate action against violators to ensure compliance with the directive across the state.
