APC Adamawa Disowns Report Claiming Gov. Fintiri’s Defection

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has dismissed as false a media report claiming that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has joined the party.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the APC Adamawa Chapter described the report published by an online platform, TGnews, as fake, misleading and unprofessionally fabricated.

The party said the publication wrongly attributed comments to the APC State Chairman, Barrister Idris Shuaibu, suggesting that Governor Fintiri had defected to the APC and was awaiting a ceremonial reception.

According to the APC, the chairman never made such remarks at the party secretariat or at any event, contrary to the claims circulating online.

“The story is purely the imagination and personal opinion of the publisher, Mr. Tom Garba, who was not present at the said event,” the statement said.

The party stressed that several journalists and media organisations covered the event referenced in the report, but none reported or recorded any statement suggesting that Governor Fintiri had joined the APC.

APC Adamawa accused the publisher of attempting to generate cheap publicity and create unnecessary political tension in the state.

The party challenged Mr. Garba to produce an audio recording of the alleged statement credited to the state chairman or retract the report and issue an unreserved apology to Governor Fintiri and Barr. Shuaibu.

The APC also urged members of the press to uphold professional standards and avoid presenting personal opinions as official statements.

The statement was signed by the APC Adamawa State Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi.
