More federal universities have begun implementing components of the new salary structure agreed between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), with payments continuing on Friday after the initial salary disbursement.
Correspondents confirmed that at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, the Consolidated Academic Tool Allowance (CATA) commenced payment separately after lecturers had earlier received their salaries under the old structure.
Academic staff at the university explained that while the February salary was initially paid without CATA, the allowance has since started reflecting as a separate payment.
A lecturer at FUDMA confirmed the development, saying, “The salary was paid earlier without CATA, but the CATA has now started dropping separately.”
The latest development follows earlier confirmations that some federal universities, including University of Maiduguri, Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), and the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), had begun paying lecturers under the revised Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), with CATA reflected in salaries in some cases.
Findings indicate that the implementation remains limited to academic staff, with non-teaching staff not captured in the adjustment.
In some institutions, the implementation has been uneven, with allowances and salary components released in phases, either alongside salaries or as separate payments.
The staggered payments come amid earlier concerns over the non-reflection of the new FG–ASUU agreement in January salaries across federal universities.
