Troops neutralise terrorists, arrest suspects, record surrender in North-East

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have sustained offensive operations across the North-East, neutralising terrorists, arresting suspects and recording a surrender under ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.

The Media Information Officer of the Theatre Command, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Maiduguri.

He said the operations, conducted under Operation DESERT SANITY V, yielded significant results in the fight against insurgency in the region.

Uba said troops, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), engaged terrorists moving from Yale towards the Sambisa Forest axis, neutralising four insurgents during the encounter.

He added that troops recovered one AK-47 rifle with ammunition, as well as food items suspected to be part of terrorist logistics supply, noting that all personnel returned safely without casualties.

According to him, sustained offensive actions along key routes including Dambboa–Maiduguri, Dambboa–Gwoza and the Goniri axis, among other infiltration corridors, have continued to restrict terrorists’ movement and operational capabilities.

“In a related development, troops deployed at Kanama arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators during a stop-and-search operation,” he said.

Uba said the suspects were found with items believed to be linked to logistics support for terrorist groups, adding that preliminary investigations revealed incriminating digital materials suggesting possible affiliations.

He noted that the suspects were currently in custody for further investigation.

The spokesman further disclosed that troops recorded the surrender of a suspected member of Boko Haram/ISWAP at a checkpoint in Kukawa Local Government Area.

He said the individual claimed to have been abducted earlier in the year and forced to join the terrorist group, and is currently undergoing profiling.

The Theatre Command reassured residents of its commitment to restoring peace, security and economic stability in the North-East.

It also urged the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, while commending troops for their resilience and urging them to sustain the momentum.
