Again: Troops rescue abducted Ngoshe women, children in Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have rescued six abducted civilians and reunited them with their families in Ngoshe community of Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State.

The Media Information Officer of the Theatre Command, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Maiduguri.

He said the rescue followed sustained offensive operations, including recent air interdictions targeting terrorist enclaves in the Mandara Mountains.

According to him, troops, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted and rescued the victims in the early hours of May 1 around Amuda, a deserted area between Ngoshe and Gava known for terrorist movements.

Uba said the victims comprised women and children who had been abducted during a terrorist attack on Ngoshe community on March 3.

“Preliminary debriefings revealed that the victims were held in captivity at a terrorist enclave in Gava before escaping,” he said.

He added that troops came under sporadic fire from fleeing terrorists attempting to pursue the escapees, but responded decisively, forcing the insurgents to withdraw into the mountainous terrain.

The spokesman noted that the successful rescue was linked to intensified military pressure on terrorist groups, which has disrupted their operations and cohesion.

He said intelligence reports indicated growing desperation among the insurgents due to sustained losses and escape of captives.

Uba added that the rescued victims were given first aid and medical attention at a military facility before being handed over to community authorities.

He said they were later reunited with their families through the Wali of Ngoshe, Alhaji Shuaibu Dabawa, during an emotional ceremony attended by residents.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to securing communities, rescuing abducted persons and eliminating terrorist elements across the North-East.

It urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing operations, while commending troops for their resilience and urging them to sustain the operational tempo.
