Bauchi PDP aspirant vows to defeat Bala-backed candidate in 2027

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party in Bauchi State, Alhaji Usman Adamu, has declared that he would defeat any candidate backed by Governor Bala Mohammed in the 2027 governorship election.

Adamu, who is reportedly backed by Nyesom Wike, made the declaration while speaking with journalists at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms.

The aspirant expressed confidence that the PDP would retain power in Bauchi State despite the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.

According to him, Bauchi has remained a stronghold of the PDP over the years, noting that the party’s popularity had previously enabled Bala Mohammed to defeat an incumbent governor.

Adamu also referenced the recent defection of Governor Mohammed, a member of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP, to the Allied People’s Movement.

“I don’t think that will be a problem in Bauchi,” he said while reacting to concerns over possible influence from the governor.

He insisted that the governor had completed his tenure and stated that he was ready to “defeat any person imposed by the governor.”

The aspirant dismissed fears surrounding incumbency, arguing that political power ultimately belongs to God.

Adamu further maintained that there was no division within the PDP in Bauchi State, insisting that the party remained more firmly rooted than the ruling All Progressives Congress and other political parties.

“You know politics is like a battlefield; it is also like a football match where you want to win. You have a coach and a referee, and in every battlefield, you must have a warrior. Why I am happy is that in PDP, we have a warrior,” he said.

He also pledged to unite women, youths and elders in the state while pursuing what he described as a development-driven agenda.

According to him, he had developed a blueprint for Bauchi State over the past 20 years, which he hoped to implement with the support of residents if elected governor in 2027.
