Former Governor Mohammed Abubakar has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election in Bauchi State, defeating former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Bala Maijama’a Wunti.
The result of the APC governorship primary was announced on Saturday by the Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee for Bauchi State, retired AIG John Abang.
Abang said Abubakar secured 57,517 votes to defeat six other aspirants in the contest.
According to the results announced, Tuggar polled 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu Soro scored 13,638 votes.
Bala Maijama’a Wunti garnered 13,648 votes, Kabir Baba Ma’aji secured 8,157 votes, Baba Abubakar Suleiman polled 7,688 votes, while Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi got 7,181 votes.
The exercise, which experienced hours of delay before the declaration of results, eventually produced Abubakar as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election.
Abubakar, who served as governor of Bauchi State from 2015 to 2019 under the APC, lost his re-election bid in 2019 to incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Tuggar was among cabinet members who resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s administration in compliance with the directive requiring political appointees seeking elective offices in 2027 to leave office before March 31, 2027.
