The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has assured that governors will continue to collaborate with the federal government to ensure food security for citizens.
He made this statement after meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, on Saturday in Abuja.
Governor Yahaya attributed the current food shortage to insecurity in some parts of the country, which has prevented farmers from cultivating their farms. However, he noted that prices of food commodities have started dropping due to federal and state government interventions.
On the issue of flood, the Governor said his administration has taken proactive measures, including desilting major channels in Gombe Township and local governments.
He also commended the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for its efforts in addressing the recent emergence of M-pox disease, stating that Gombe State has four diagnostic centers and laboratories ready to respond to any outbreak.
Additionally, Governor Yahaya disclosed that the Gombe State government has a standing committee working on implementing the new national minimum wage for workers, in collaboration with labor unions.
