Adamawa State Athletes Depart For National Youth Games

A contingent of 190 athletes from Adamawa State has departed for Asaba, Delta State, to participate in the eighth edition of the National Youth Games, scheduled to take place from September 9th to 19th, 2024.

The Adamawa State team will compete in 23 sports, including athletics, para-athletics, chess, judo, scrabble, basketball, handball, hockey, kung fu, football, wrestling, kokowa, tennis, beach volleyball, swimming, volleyball, badminton, karate, cycling, boxing, kickboxing, and gymnastics.

Speaking to news men on Sunday in Yola, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Wali Yakubu, urged the athletes to display courage and pride, building on their impressive performance during the zonal eliminations in Taraba State. He emphasized the state’s goal of replicating their success on the national stage.

The Adamawa State team qualified to represent the North East zone in various sports, including handball, hockey, football, beach volleyball, volleyball, and basketball.

Hon. Jibrilla Manga, Chairman of the Sports Council Board, praised the athletes’ enthusiasm, while Acting Director of the Sports Council, Mr. Daniel Ahmed, expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his support for sports development.

Master Daniel Dawango, speaking on behalf of the athletes, thanked Governor Fintiri for providing resources to showcase their talents and pledged to make the state proud.
