Rep Seeks Investigation into Abandoned Numan-Jalingo Road Project

The member representing Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Sadiq Abbas Tafida, has called for an investigation into the abandoned Numan-Jalingo road project.

Tafida made the plea via a motion on the House floor on Wednesday, noting that the ₦11 billion project awarded to Deux Projects Nigeria Limited in 2017 has not recorded substantial progress.

He expressed concern over conflicting information from the contractor and slow progress despite the Federal Government’s ₦3 billion allocation in 2022.

The lawmaker recalled that the former Minister of State for Works and Housing, Hon. Mu’azu Sambo, during a site visit in 2022, attributed the delay to COVID-19.

However, Tafida noted that the contractor cited security challenges as hindrances to progress, contradicting the minister’s statement.

The contractor also claimed that only ₦1.5 billion had been disbursed for the project, contrary to the government’s allocation.

Tafida requested that the Committee on Works invite the Minister of Works to clarify the contract’s status and report within four weeks for further legislative action.

He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the utilization of public funds.

The abandonment of the project has caused hardship for commuters plying the axis, Tafida added.
