The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has achieved a significant milestone in the fight against insurgency, neutralising Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in the Kukawa and Monguno areas of Borno State.
Troops of Sector 3 carried out the operation, demonstrating their resolve to secure the Lake Chad region.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the Chief Military Information Office on Monday, the terrorists launched an attack using suicide Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs).
However, the MNJTF responded with superior firepower, supported by air and artillery strikes, neutralising five terrorists while others fled with gunshot wounds.
The operation saw the destruction of three VBIEDs by air assets and the recovery of 40 motorbikes armed with assorted weapons, four anti-aircraft guns, and a rocket-propelled grenade. Unfortunately, three soldiers paid the ultimate price during the engagement.
