The Adamawa State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has removed all district heads and traditional titleholders in the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Humwashi Wonosikou, the government clarified that the directive only affects district heads who previously held traditional titles under their former councils. These individuals are required to relinquish those titles and pledge loyalty to their new chiefs and emirs, following the creation of new chiefdoms and emirates in the state.
The statement emphasized that this policy is aimed at fostering unity, harmony, and cultural preservation within Adamawa’s traditional institutions. It also allows district heads to receive new titles in accordance with their cultural heritage, subject to approval from the appropriate authorities.
“As a policy, I call on all the district heads concerned to transfer their loyalty, rights, and privileges to the new emirates and chiefdoms. Hence, traditional titles acquired from their old emirates and chiefdoms are to be dropped,” Governor Fintiri stated.
He further directed the newly constituted traditional councils to recommend new titles for district heads in line with statutory traditions.
The government condemned the deliberate distortion of this policy through artificial intelligence (AI)-generated misinformation, aimed at misleading the public and tarnishing the governor’s image.
It urged residents to disregard the false reports and support efforts to strengthen the state’s traditional governance system.
