
The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect involved in the physical assault of a 22-year-old woman, Salamatu Yakubu, in the Angwan Tana area of Jimeta.
The incident, which occurred on March 13, 2025, gained public attention after a video showing the brutal assault was circulated widely on social media.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the suspect was apprehended following several distress calls from concerned citizens, non-governmental organisations, and civil society groups.
Nguroje said the arrest was made possible through community policing efforts and active collaboration with members of the public.
“The victim has been taken to the hospital where she is currently receiving medical attention and is responding to treatment,” he stated.
The suspect is currently in custody at the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) as investigations continue.
The Command reassured the public of its commitment to justice, stressing that the case will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
