Chairman of the Senate Committee on Innovation, Science and Technology, Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, has donated multi-million naira worth of food items to victims of natural disasters and insurgency in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The donation was made on Friday at the palace of the Tol Huba, His Royal Highness Tol Alheri Bulus Nyako, for onward distribution to the affected communities.
Represented by a high-powered delegation led by Hon. Job Gundiri, Senator Abbas said the relief items were intended to cushion the effect of recent hardships faced by residents due to insurgency attacks and environmental disasters.
The items donated included 300 bags of rice, 300 bags of maize, 300 cartons of spaghetti, 30 cartons of Maggi seasoning, 30 bags of salt, and 30 cartons of packaged tomatoes.
The senator said he had already reached out to relevant stakeholders and federal agencies to provide additional support for victims across Adamawa Central and the state at large.
He commiserated with the affected families and offered prayers for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the incidents, expressing optimism that more interventions would follow.
“I have communicated with relevant agencies to come to the aid of our people, and I will continue to push for sustainable solutions both for disaster victims and internally displaced persons,” he said.
Receiving the items, the Tol Huba, HRH Alheri Bulus Nyako, thanked Senator Abbas for his continued support, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.
He assured that the items would be distributed equitably to ensure that all affected communities in Hong LGA benefit from the relief.
It would be recalled that Senator Abbas had recently sponsored separate motions on the floor of the Senate, addressing the menace of insurgency and natural disasters in Adamawa State. The Senate unanimously passed a resolution urging for comprehensive and long-term measures to tackle the challenges.
