The Adamawa State Government and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) have condemned the vandalism of the 132KV transmission towers along the Girei-Song axis.
The condemnation was contained in a joint statement issued on Sunday by the Ministry of Works and Energy Development in collaboration with TCN.
According to the statement, the vandalised towers at Bariki Sahajo (AP8D/11) form part of an ongoing project designed to supply improved and steady electricity to several local government areas, including Yola, Girei, Song, Little Gombi, Hong, Mubi, Michika, and Gulak.
The ministry and TCN described the act as sabotage, noting that it undermines the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance power supply to eight LGAs in the state.
They stressed that vandalisation of power infrastructure is a criminal act that will not be tolerated.
The statement further urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities around power installations to relevant authorities, stressing that the protection of public utilities is a collective responsibility.
