The Adamawa Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old student of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, for alleged involvement in cybercrimes, including impersonation, sextortion, and cyberstalking.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday in Yola.
He said the suspect, Paul John, a 500-level student, was arrested by operatives of the Commissioner of Police’s Monitoring Unit following credible intelligence.
According to him, the suspect created multiple fake social media accounts under names such as Rose YarLele, Procious Favourite, Wange Precious, and Joy Dennis, using women’s photos without their consent.
Nguroje added that the suspect allegedly posted the images with offensive captions, collected nude pictures from victims, and used them for blackmail to demand money and sexual favours.
He further said the suspect in some cases advertised victims for hookup services, thereby damaging their reputations.
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mr Dankombo Morris, as directing that the suspect be thoroughly investigated and charged to court.
Morris assured that the Command remained committed to safeguarding the dignity, security, and rights of residents both online and offline.
He advised members of the public, particularly social media users, to exercise caution when sharing personal information and images with strangers.
