The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved a supplementary budget of N135 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, raising the total budget size from N486.2 billion to N621.2 billion.
The decision was reached during the Council’s 18th meeting of the year, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House in Yola.
Briefing newsmen shortly after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. James Iliya, said the supplementary budget aims to bolster ongoing projects and initiate new developmental programmes across the state.
He also announced the Council’s approval of N14.9 billion for the reconstruction of the 24-kilometre Mubi–Maiha road. The project, awarded to Messrs Triacta Nigeria, is expected to be completed within 15 months.
According to the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Emmanuel Pridimso, the additional budgetary provision was necessitated by increased revenue inflows into the state’s coffers.
“This supplementary budget is to enable the state government to complete key infrastructural and social development projects while also addressing new priorities,” Pridimso said.
Speaking on the road project, the Commissioner for Works and Energy, Hon. Adamu Atiku Abubakar, explained that although the Mubi–Maiha road is a federal project, the state government decided to intervene due to the hardship faced by residents.
“The road was last constructed in 2002 and has since deteriorated. Despite being a federal route, the state cannot ignore the plight of its people,” he stated.
The Council also approved N1.2 billion as counterpart funding for the 2025 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS).
The State Focal Person on SDGs, Mr. Muhammad Alfa Raji, expressed optimism that the funding would accelerate development across critical sectors. He also appealed to the federal government to release its matching funds to ensure smooth project implementation.
