The Taraba State Police Command has presented welfare cheques amounting to ₦40,389,115.38 to the families of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
In a statement issued by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ishaku Victor Mshelizah, the Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, made the presentation during a solemn ceremony held in Jalingo on Wednesday.
The Commissioner said the gesture reflected the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to the welfare of officers and their families.
She noted that the fallen heroes sacrificed their lives to ensure the safety and security of citizens and that the Force remained dedicated to honouring their memory through sustained welfare support.
“These officers gave everything for peace and order; we owe it to them and their families to stand by them,” Otimenyin said, urging the beneficiaries to use the funds productively to improve their livelihoods.
The families expressed gratitude to the Police authorities for the support, describing it as a timely intervention that would ease their financial burdens.
The Commissioner also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting police officers as they work to maintain peace and order across the state.
