Adamawa to release 5,000 teachers’ list, pledges better welfare

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri says the Adamawa Government has concluded plans to release the list of over 5,000 newly recruited teachers to address manpower gaps in the education sector.

Fintiri disclosed this during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration held in Yola, themed “Insecurity and Poverty: Bane of Decent Work.”

Represented by his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, the governor said the recruitment was part of broader efforts to strengthen the state’s workforce and improve service delivery.

He also announced plans to recruit additional personnel into the local government system to enhance grassroots administration.

The governor emphasised that the right to industrial organisation was constitutionally guaranteed and urged employers across the state to protect and uphold workers’ rights.

Fintiri reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing labour demands proactively, noting that a motivated workforce remained key to productivity.

He said the government had already employed over 7,000 workers into the core civil service, adding that more recruitment was underway to further strengthen the system.

“Our administration remains workers-friendly and committed to upholding the dignity of labour, restoring hope, and ensuring secure retirement with protected pensions,” he said.

Fintiri also highlighted investments in security and infrastructure, noting that the state was pursuing policies aimed at improving economic growth and attracting investors.

In his remarks, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr Emmanuel Fashe, said the 2026 theme reflected the current realities in Nigeria and Adamawa in particular.

He described insecurity and poverty as major threats to decent work, while acknowledging the state government’s efforts in addressing the challenges.

Fashe, however, called for a wage review in line with current economic realities, clearance of outstanding liabilities, implementation of promotions for local government workers, and upward review of pensions as recommended by relevant authorities.

Also speaking, representatives of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria commended workers for their contributions to national development.

The event featured a march past by workers’ unions, with prizes awarded to outstanding participants.
