Education Ministry Confirms CONTTA Allowance for Varsity, Polytechnics Staff

The Federal Ministry of Education has confirmed the approval of a 30 per cent increase in the consolidated salary structures of non-academic staff in federal tertiary institutions across the country.

The confirmation followed an official communication from the Office of the Minister of Education, dated March 30, 2026, conveying presidential approval for the increment to be implemented as Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance (CONTTA).

According to the ministry, the increase covers non-academic staff of federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

The ministry stated that the approval underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare, motivation and productivity of non-academic staff in tertiary institutions.

It added that the move was also aimed at strengthening the quality, stability and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

The letter, addressed to the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), called for cooperation and support to ensure seamless and timely implementation of the approval.

The ministry noted that details of the implementation guidelines were contained in the approved memorandum attached to the communication.

The development is expected to impact thousands of non-academic staff across federal tertiary institutions nationwide.
