Gombe, UK Agency Deepen Partnership on Agriculture, Economic Growth

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening partnerships aimed at boosting agricultural development, improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities in Gombe State.

The governor stated this while receiving a delegation from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the British High Commission and Propcom+ at the Government House in Gombe.

The delegation visited the state as part of an annual review of the Propcom+ partnership with Gombe State and consultations on future areas of collaboration.

The team was led by Archie Stay, Food and Agriculture Adviser at the FCDO, alongside Valentine Udida, Senior Programme Manager at FCDO, Adiya Ode, Country Representative of Propcom+, and Olumide Ojo, Strategy Director of Propcom+.

Speaking during the meeting, Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed optimism that the partnership would continue to deliver positive impact in agricultural productivity, climate adaptation, rural empowerment and economic inclusion.

He said agriculture remained a major pillar of his administration’s economic development strategy, stressing that collaboration with international development partners was essential for achieving sustainable growth.

The governor commended the FCDO and Propcom+ for supporting reforms and interventions targeted at improving the lives of farmers, women and vulnerable groups across the state.

He particularly appreciated Propcom+ for supporting the development of Gombe State’s Agro-Industrial Policy, which has already received approval from the State Executive Council and is awaiting official launch.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya also assured the delegation of the state government’s readiness to deepen cooperation and implement policies capable of encouraging innovation, attracting investment and promoting long-term agricultural development.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Archie Stay, said the visit was aimed at reviewing ongoing engagements under the Propcom+ programme and consulting stakeholders on the next phase of the partnership.

He commended the Gombe State Government for demonstrating strong political will in implementing programmes that promote food security, climate resilience and inclusive economic growth.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Jalo Ali, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Ahmed Guli.
