Gov Bala Signs MoU with REA to Boost Power Supply in Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving electricity access and driving industrial growth through strategic investments and partnerships in the power sector.

He made this known in Abuja during a State-by-State Roundtable Engagement organised by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), where the Bauchi State Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the agency.

Governor Mohammed explained that the initiative aligns with his administration’s policies aimed at addressing power challenges, especially in rural communities. He assured that his government would vigorously pursue the implementation of the projects to achieve sustainable development and better living conditions for residents.

The roundtable, themed “Powering the Pearl: Strengthening the Bauchi State Electricity Market for Investment, Inclusive Access, and Industrial Growth,” brought together public and private sector stakeholders, including investors who expressed readiness to invest in Bauchi’s energy market.

Accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo, and other senior officials, Mohammed reiterated that expanding electricity access remains a top priority of his administration as it underpins socio-economic transformation.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of the REA, Abba Aliyu, commended the governor for his visionary leadership and collaboration with the agency to promote energy access in rural communities.

He added that investors were eager to partner with Bauchi in the power sector, stressing the importance of community engagement and sensitisation to ensure project sustainability.

The engagement featured technical presentations from REA officials, including Doris Uboh, Executive of the Rural Electrification Fund; Engr. Umar A. Umar, Executive Director, Technical Services; Engr. Olufemi Akinyelure, Head, Project Management Unit; Ayode Gboyega, Executive Director, Corporate Services; and Mohammed Jibril, Technical Adviser to the MD.

They outlined investment opportunities available to Bauchi State for advancing rural electrification and renewable energy development.

Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo, also presented an overview of the renewable energy investment landscape in the state, highlighting Bauchi’s enabling environment for investors and the government’s determination to enhance power supply for sustainable economic growth.
