Abbo Dumps ADC For Labour Party Ahead Of 2027

A former senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Ishaku Abbo, has resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and defected to the Labour Party (LP).

Abbo, who served in the 9th National Assembly, announced his defection in a statement issued on Sunday, citing unresolved leadership crises within the ADC at both national and state levels.

He said conflicting court judgments had created uncertainty in the party, including a Federal High Court ruling that voided its state congresses and a subsequent Supreme Court decision returning the dispute to the lower court for determination.

The former lawmaker said he moved to the Labour Party alongside members of his political structure, the SIA Movement, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Abbo stated that his decision was driven by the need to pursue his political aspirations and those of his supporters, rather than personal grievances against the ADC.

“I am leaving not out of hate for the party but to pursue our political aspirations because I carry the dreams of many people,” he said.

He also appealed to his supporters and associates within the ADC for understanding, while expressing forgiveness to those he said had wronged him during his time in the party.

Abbo further disclosed that he would soon unveil his preferred presidential candidate in collaboration with his new party.

The development follows recent legal disputes within the ADC leadership, which political observers say could affect the party’s preparedness for the 2027 elections.
