The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has urged aspirants seeking the House of Representatives ticket under the All Progressives Congress (APC) to embrace unity and consensus ahead of the party’s primaries.
Governor Fintiri made the appeal during a consultative meeting held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yola, where he hosted APC House of Representatives aspirants in what he described as a strategic effort aimed at strengthening party cohesion and ensuring stability in the state.
Addressing the gathering, the governor said consensus remained the most practical option for the party, especially in view of the prevailing security challenges in the region.
According to him, a united party structure would reduce internal friction and enable members to focus on governance, peace, and development.
Fintiri also cautioned aspirants against engaging in personal attacks or abusive exchanges on social media, stressing that such actions could damage the image of the party.
He warned against anti-party activities and reminded party members that the collective interest of the APC should take precedence over personal ambition.
“God is the ultimate giver of power,” the governor said, urging the aspirants to remain patient and trust in divine timing.
“I am a democrat at heart. That is why I have called you here as one family to discuss. While consensus is the best path to avoid the stress and time constraints of a heated race, I promise that if it fails, the direct primaries will be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner,” he stated.
The meeting began with remarks from the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Barrister Auwal Tukur, who emphasised the importance of internal democracy and party alignment ahead of the selection process.
Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Barrister Aliyu Boya Wakili and Musa Musa Usman Terrang commended the governor for what they described as an inclusive and consultative leadership approach.
They noted that unlike the situation in some states where candidates are allegedly imposed, the Adamawa governor opted for dialogue and consultation with stakeholders.
Political observers say the governor’s call for consensus reflects efforts to prevent internal divisions as the APC prepares for its primaries.
The aspirants are expected to return to their constituencies for further consultations before either submitting agreed candidates or preparing for competitive primaries.
