APC unveils candidates for 2027 governorship elections in 28 states

The ruling All Progressives Congress has produced governorship candidates for the 2027 elections in 28 states following the conclusion of primaries in several parts of the country.

In Abia State, Eric Opah emerged as the party’s governorship candidate after polling 126,977 votes to defeat Henry Ikoh, who secured 5,905 votes.

The result of the Adamawa primary was yet to be officially announced as of Thursday night, though Ahmed Galadima was reportedly leading.

In Akwa Ibom, Gov. Umo Eno emerged as the APC candidate through consensus, while the Bauchi primary was postponed and scheduled to continue on Friday.

In Benue, Gov. Hyacinth Alia was leading with a wide margin and was expected to emerge as the party’s candidate.

In Borno, Mustapha Gubio emerged through consensus, while Gov. Bassey Otu also secured the Cross River ticket through consensus.

In Delta, Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori emerged as the APC candidate after polling 345,375 votes.

Gov. Francis Nwifuru clinched the Ebonyi ticket through consensus, while Gov. Peter Mbah emerged similarly in Enugu State.

In Gombe, Jamilu Gwamna won the governorship ticket with 247,161 votes, defeating Prof. Isa Pantami, who scored 12,120 votes, and former Minister of Transportation Saidu Ahmed Alkali, who polled 11,612 votes.

Gov. Umar Namadi emerged through consensus in Jigawa, while Gov. Uba Sani secured Kaduna State’s ticket after polling 459,393 votes at the primary election.

In Kano, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf emerged through consensus, while Gov. Dikko Radda and Gov. Nasir Idris also secured their respective tickets through consensus.

The Kwara primary was postponed and expected to continue on Friday, while in Lagos, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat emerged as the APC candidate after polling 657,917 votes to defeat Lanre Kamal, who scored one vote.

The Nasarawa primary was also postponed, while Gov. Umaru Bago emerged through consensus in Niger State.

In Ogun, Sen. Solomon Adeola secured the APC ticket after polling 304,055 votes to defeat Abayomi Hunye, who scored zero votes.

The final result of the Oyo primary was yet to be announced, though Sen. Sharafadeen Alli was reportedly leading.

In Plateau, Gov. Caleb Mutfwang was leading with a wide margin and expected to emerge victorious.

Ogundu Kingsley Chinda emerged as the APC candidate in Rivers after polling 268,497 votes. He was adopted as the consensus candidate after three aspirants, including Gov. Siminalayi Fubara, withdrew from the race.

Gov. Ahmad Aliyu emerged through consensus in Sokoto, while Gov. Agbu Kefas was also leading with a wide margin in Taraba State.

In Yobe, Baba Malam Wali was leading with a wide margin and expected to emerge as the party’s candidate, while Gov. Dauda Lawal secured the Zamfara ticket through consensus.

The APC did not conduct governorship primaries in Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Ondo and Osun states because the states operate off-cycle governorship election schedules.
