In a proactive move towards conflict resolution, the Adamawa State Government on Tuesday facilitated a crucial dialogue session aimed at resolving a longstanding land dispute between Dangote Sugar Refinery and the Bachama Communities.
The meeting, held under the auspices of the Office of the Secretary General to the Governor, brought together representatives from all sides to address the contentious issue.
The delegation from Dangote Sugar Refinery expressed willingness to engage constructively with the Bachama Communities to find an amicable solution, while the Bachama Communities articulated their concerns regarding land use, ownership, and the socio-economic impact of the dispute on their livelihoods.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Awwal Tukur, emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation in resolving conflicts of this nature, highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering harmony and sustainable development in the state.
During the deliberations, all parties had the opportunity to voice their grievances, aspirations, and proposals for a way forward. The discussions touched upon various aspects, including land rights, compensation mechanisms, community development initiatives, and environmental sustainability.
Tentative agreements were reached on certain key issues, laying the groundwork for further negotiations and collaborative efforts in the days ahead. Dangote Sugar Refinery and the Bachama Communities expressed optimism about the prospects of reaching a comprehensive settlement that fosters peace, prosperity, and equitable development in the region.
