The Petroleum Technology Development Fund has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in Nigeria through a strategic partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education.

This was the focus of a high-level meeting between the Executive Secretary of PTDF, Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, and the Minister of Education, Morufu Olatunji Alausa, on the proposed nationwide rollout of the PTDF STEM initiative.

The meeting, held in Abuja, also resolved to constitute a committee chaired by the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, to develop modalities for integrating the PTDF STEM programme with the ministry’s digital learning platforms.

According to the parties, the committee will also ensure proper coordination with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council to guarantee curriculum compliance and effective implementation of the initiative across the country.

Speaking during the engagement, Prof. Aliyu said the Fund remained committed to strengthening human capital development through early STEM education.

He noted that the initiative was designed to inspire innovation, critical thinking and scientific excellence among Nigerian students.

“The PTDF STEM initiative is aimed at equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills required to compete in a technology-driven global economy,” he said.

The PTDF delegation at the meeting included the General Manager, Education and Training, Mrs. Rabiah Waziri-Adamu; General Manager, Legal and Secretarial Services, Mr. Tanimu Ahmed; and General Manager, Office of the Executive Secretary, Mr. Mohammed Salihu Olowo.

Also present were representatives of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, including Mr. Garba Gandu and Mr. Chima Egbujuo.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both institutions toward promoting technological innovation, scientific advancement and industrial development in Nigeria through improved STEM education.
