e management of Gombe State University has commenced investigation into the discovery of a day-old baby boy at one of the institution’s female hostels.
The university described the incident as unfortunate, saying efforts were ongoing to identify those responsible.
The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Napthali Hadu, confirmed the development on Friday during a telephone interview.
He said the university had already engaged security agencies to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure those involved were brought to justice.
“Security agencies are doing everything within their powers to fish out the perpetrator,” he said.
According to the university management, the newborn has been taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe for medical attention and care.
The management also placed the female hostel under restriction pending the outcome of investigations.
The incident has sparked concern within the university community, especially as similar cases of abandoned newborns had previously been reported in the area, including an incident recorded in 2023.
University authorities, however, assured students and the public that necessary measures were being taken to address the situation and strengthen security within the hostels.
